The work of Mary MacKillop in Victoria began with a school in Numurkah in 1890 and a second in Bacchus Marsh in 1891. From there Mary wrote;
“It is like beginning the work again and I am so thankful that God has let me commence it there.”
The work of Mary began in education and extended to St Joseph’s Home for boys in Surrey Hills. Then further onto the Providence for destitute women in East Melbourne. Mary took every opportunity to meet the needs of the poor and unfortunate.
In 1910 our present site, formerly called Mount St Joseph, was purchased by the Sisters of Saint Joseph as a central home for the sick and elderly, a retreat centre and a base for those sisters working in the area.
Today Mary MacKillop Aged Care flourishes in the spirit of Mary who heard God’s call.
